From the past to the future

Known prior to Expo’98 as the TCC Tower, it was the most visible structure of Portugal’s first refinery, the Cabo Ruivo Refinery. This plant manufactured products resulting from the distillation of crude oil. And it was the production process which gave the Tower its name: Thermoform Catalytic Cracking – TCC. It was known in the Lisbon area for its smell and the flame, and was the only landmark from the pre-Expo era which was preserved and incorporated into the exposition precinct. It still stands in Parque das Nações.
